About Midnight Spaghetti
Retro funk mob Midnight Spaghetti & The Chocolate G-Strings was formed in 2003 and quickly became an independent force in the the Mid Atlantic Music scene, while establishing themselves as one of the greatest original party bands to emerge from the early 2000’s JMU music scene . Their blend of classic funk, conscious frenetic rap, a killer horn section, and a contagious enthusiasm for life left people wondering what planet they came from, but more importantly, how they could get on that mothership.
Keeping the old school party vibe of Digital Underground and Trouble Funk alive, Midnight Spaghetti takes the beat and runs with it in progressive directions. There are definite similarities to the contemporary genre-bending hip hop group Ozomatli, as well as the ruckus attitude of the early Red Hot Chili Peppers, but listen closely to the lyrics and you’ll find the brainy humor to be reminiscent of Frank Zappa.
Midnight Spaghetti has developed into an important player in the Mid-Atlantic music scene. Their yearly charitable music festival, SPAGHETTIFEST, brought together of local, regional, and national bands (including DIGITAL UNDERGROUND, DJ KOOL, The Pietasters, MIKE DOUGHTY, SCRATCH of THE ROOTS, Michael Glabicki of Rusted Root, The Recipe, and The Big Wu ) to celebrate for one wild weekend in the woods for 15 consecutive years between 2003 to 2017. Then there are the field trips: Several Halloweens in COSTA RICA, multiple Spaghettifest South Experiences in Mexico, week-long road trips with fans while touring through Canada, 24-hour power vacations along the coasts of North Carolina, you get the idea. It’s the kind of thing that only a freewheeling independent band could do.
In September of 2015 Midnight Spaghetti released the much anticipated second studio album “Spaghettiquette”. This album features an array of members that have been blazing trails with Midnight Spaghetti, keeping the funk alive. Produced and Mixed by longtime group leader and writer Mikael Glago, and mastered by Andy Jackson of Tube Mastering for the ultimate Spaghetti-Sonic Party. The album is available at every online retailer or stream service. CD copies are available as well as full fidelity downloads from the groups website.
The groups first studio album Velour On The Floor was released in 2006. This album features a few crowd favorites still performed at concerts.
The band has a 3rd Album Titled Another World yet to be officially released.
