The University of Mary Washington is hosting a free outdoor concert in conjunction with events scheduled in Fredericksburg throughout the weekend for the Marine Corps Historic Half Marathon. Whether you're in town for the marathon or just want to dance to some good music, it should be bumpin', so bring your friends to the fountain and get down.

Five funky years later and still going strong! To celebrate, we're doing it old school style, rocking a big house party in Harrisonburg. There's going to be all sort of awesome stuff going on that night, including the debut of the Spaghettifest 5 DVD, so be sure to get there early and stay late. Brand new huge art/performance space located in the old Eyeclops space, this is the biggest, classiest venue around. Donations support the Fredericksburg Athenaeum and local food bank.

MMC is an eleven-year-strong conference for industry heads and regional bands. Three days and four nights feature music business panels, clinics, workshops, mentoring, trade shows, and tons of showcase performances (including yours truly). We're going to be playing on the Saturday showcase with Sparky's Flaw, IMI, and Robin Horlock Band. Register for the conference at mmc11.com or just come by for a pint. The recently opened 1440 Live (formerly known as Uncle Sam's) is a great new night club showcasing original music. Have you ever been frustrated knowing that your favorite regional band can't get gigs in their own home town because they don't do an all Top 40 cover show? These guys are changing that. Hosted by the same folks running 99.3 WYSK, they bring you great bands performing their own music in a rocking venue. Get in on the ground floor with this one!

In our first international show, we've teamed up with the Ski Travel Unlimited crew as the official tour band. We're going to be turning it out with college students from all over the East coast at the opening party on Wednesday, January 3rd. The rest of the time, we'll be hanging out with everyone and enjoying the many amenities of Tremblant, including:

• Adrenalined Mountain, boasting a 2,131' vertical drop over 600 acres and 92 runs
• Snowboard parks with 18 acres of ramps, halfpipes, mogul and snowblade zones
• Eight-person heated gondola

At the annual Christmakwanzukah Semi-Formal, friends and family of all stripes get together to make plaid. That is, a plaid evening of dancing, pot luck dining, awesome music, and looking like a million bucks. Hosted by Cecil Conley of Fried Moose and JimiBeckBlues, this is an annual winter tradition that you don't want to miss. There will be a cash bar, so please, no outside drinks. And of course, be sure to wear your swankiest outfit.

This is a new venue that just opened up in Uptown Central Park, right next to the Ice Park. We've got some old friends showing up for this, but be sure to bring your friends and check out the new place.

We have some pretty backwards drug laws in the USA, and the Smoke-In is all about raising awareness and working towards reform. In addition to the music all afternoon, there will be public speakers and a rally march from the White House to the concert grounds. Express your independence and celebrate our nation's birthday in the capital!

The SoundQuilt Music Festival is a outdoor event with two full days of regional music. Produced by Walnut Grooves Productions, this will be the event's third year in the running. The event is hosted by The Cove Campground, a 3,000 acre park boasting plenty of camping, hiking, biking, swimming, canoeing, fishing, plus cabins for the less rustic-minded. Tripper Ryder is a music demigod. He has called upon the four winds and the rock spirits, impregnated a mortal with their combined majesty, and the offspring was called MoneyPenny. Hailing from a love aesthetic long forgotten, their sounds conjure up pop images from four decades ago. Meanwhile, epic poetry from the days of Grendel gets revamped and reinterpreted by RPM, resulting in astonishingly smooth beats and flow better than the Mississippi.
